After watching Truman on our first date, I knew that someday I wanted to visit Fiji. Sixteen years later that dream became a reality as we celebrated our 15-year anniversary on the white sandy beaches of Fiji. We stayed at Navini Island Resort and loved it so much that we ended up taking our kids back the next year. It was the best family vacation we’ve ever had! If you’re looking for the best place to stay in Fiji, we highly recommend Navini Island Resort.
*And while you’re not too far from New Zealand, we would recommend tacking that on to your itinerary for the ultimate family vacation! Check out our South Island Bucket List Guide to get you started!

The small private island means no crowds
After doing a lot of research we came across a hidden gem, Navini Island Resort. This resort is perfect for both couples and families.
What makes Navini Island Resort so special is that this private island has only 10 bures (beach cottages) so the island is never crowded.
Each cottage is beachfront so you can roll out of your comfortable bed and walk a few feet for a morning dip in the ocean.
And each evening you will witness a spectacular South Pacific sunset all to yourself.
And your days will be spent lounging in your own private beach hammock. Each cottage is outfitted with their own hammock and private beach.
Other Fiji resorts feel crowded and touristy, we loved the authentic and private atmosphere of Navini.
Unlike other resorts, day trippers are not allowed so you never have crowds of tourists flocking to your beach.
The only people allowed on Navini Island Resort are registered guests.
Navini Island Resort is all inclusive
Navini Island Resort is an all-inclusive resort, meaning all meals are included and the food is unbelievable!
They serve three hearty meals a day. All of the guests eat together in the outdoor dining area so you get a chance to meet your neighbors. All the kids became instant friends and we still keep in touch with some of the friends we met on the island!
One night a week they hold a traditional Fijian feast with authentic dishes and everyone dresses up in sulus.
And if you would like, on one of the evenings they will even set up a romantic candlelight dinner on your private beach.
Daily excursions are included
Each day there is a planned outing if you would like to participate. Some of the outings include things such as snorkeling at the sand cay, fishing, visiting another island or local village.
Our favorite day trip was snorkeling at the sand cay. The sand cay is a small island made of pure white sand sitting in the middle of the ocean.
The water is so clear and tropical fish were abundant, we even found Nemo!
A variety of watersports and activities are available at no charge
The resort provides a variety of water sports equipment, such as kayaks, paddle boards, spy boards, and sea cycles.
We loved that there was the perfect balance of relaxed downtime and organized activities to keep the kids from getting restless.
The island is so small that my kids’ favorite thing was kayaking around the entire island.
The evenings include a kava ceremony, games of vidi vidi, dancing, and music.
I loved getting a taste of the Fijian culture in a natural setting that didn’t feel too “touristy”.
Each guest gets a traditional sulu to be worn on the night of the Fijian feast. My kids just loved wearing them all the time.
The service at Navini Island Resort is exceptional
The staff at Navini Island Resort are exceptional. Everyone is so friendly and attentive to your needs without smothering you.
If you want a coconut, they’ll shimmy up a tree and grab one for you then slice the top off for you to drink.
One of the employees even took our restless boys crab hunting one evening so that we could enjoy a quiet dinner.
The island is small enough that you can feel comfortable letting your kids run around exploring every square inch of the island.
They’ll spend the days catching lizards and crabs, or kayaking their way around while imagining they’ve discovered a deserted island.
Staying at Navini Island Resort is a good value
The estimated cost was around $3000 USD for 5 nights and 6 days for our family of six when we went.
Each stay at Navini Island Resort includes a beachfront villa, 3 hearty homemade meals a day, transfers to and from the airport and all the included water sports and daily outings.
When you break down the cost of all that is included, it really is a pretty good deal. We could easily spend that on a week in Disneyland!
Navini Island Resort really is the best place to stay in Fiji. I would highly recommend this for a romantic getaway or the family vacation of a lifetime!
