1. Ferris Wheelers Backyard and BBQ
Location: Ferris Wheelers | 1950 Market Center Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207
Why we love it: We love the backyard feel with guests dining casually on picnic tables under the lights with live music playing in the background.
After indulging in some good ole’ Texas BBQ, you can take a ride on the Ferris wheel!
Rides are free, but check the website for hours of operation and for a schedule of live music performances. Indoor dining is also available.
The food is good, but the ambiance is the biggest draw.
What to order: Pulled pork sandwich with seasoned fries and a side of mac and cheese.
2. Dallas Truck Yard
Location: Dallas Truck Yard | 5624 Sears St., Dallas, TX 75206
Why we love it: We love the concept behind the Dallas Truck Yard. A wide variety of your favorite food trucks in a rustic and kitschy outdoor setting.
It is reminiscent of an actual truck junkyard, which only adds to the funky and quirky atmosphere.
The laid back casual vibe gives the feeling of a summer BBQ with friends. You can even dine in a treehouse!
There is a stage set up with live music playing on Fridays from 4-7 pm.
The food trucks vary each day and are open from 11 am- 9 pm. Check the site to see a calendar of the food trucks available.
In addition to the rotating food trucks, there is also an indoor bar that serves food as well.
The Truck Yard is located outside of downtown in a cute neighborhood with ample free parking.
What to order: A few of the more popular food trucks are Jack’s Chowhound for pulled pork grilled cheese sandwiches, Easy Slider for gourmet sliders, The Guava Tree for Pan con lechon, and The Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. for gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.
3. Public School 214
Address: PS 214 | 3700 McKinney Ave, Ste 148, Dallas, TX 75204
Why we love it: We love the old-school vibe. Pun intended. As you sit down you’ll feel like you’re in a classroom of a preppy high school.
The decor is tastefully done with globes lining the windows and menus that look like composition books.
Aside from the unique environment, the food is absolutely delicious too! The dishes are made from scratch using only fresh ingredients.
It is located near the trendy West Village shopping center with free parking in the garage.
What to order: Fish tacos with sweet potato fries

4. Milk • Cream
Address: Milk • Cream | 5420 Ross Ave, Ste 160, Dallas, Tx, 75206
Why we love it: The marriage of a donut and ice cream is a match made in heaven!
This minimalist ice cream shop forgoes any thrills and gets straight to the good stuff.
The idea is simple, get a hot glazed donut, slice it in half and fill it with a scoop of your favorite ice cream then roll the edges in a topping of your choice.
The Milk & Cream Bun is quite rich, I would suggest asking them to cut it in half and sharing it with a friend. Although the hard part will be agreeing on the same flavor combination!
The small store is located outside the city in an unassuming strip mall with plenty of parking.
What to order: The flavor combinations that we loved were the Lavender Bean ice cream + Fruity Pebbles, Salted Caramel ice cream + Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Banana Cream ice cream + Oreos.
5. Dallas Grilled Cheese Co.
Address: Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. | Two locations: 310 W 7th St, Dallas, TX 75208 (Bishop Arts) and 5319 E Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75206 (Mockingbird Station)
Why we love it: My all-time favorite comfort meal is grilled cheese and tomato soup.
Although it is a simple meal, I am very picky and wasn’t sure if I would love it or hate it. The verdict came in and we were all head-over-heels in love!
The sandwiches were grilled to perfection with the perfect buttery crispness and gooey cheese. The tomato soup was so fresh, creamy, and simple just the way I like it.
If you want to venture outside the traditional grilled cheese sandwich, there is a wide variety of sandwich combinations on the menu.
They also serve appetizers, soups, salads, and desserts. There are two store locations and a food truck as well.
What to order: The Classic or The Favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a side of Old World Tomato Basil soup. The sweet potato waffle fries dipped in the house ranch are to die for as well!
6. The Rustic
Address: The Rustic | 3656 Howell St Dallas, TX, 75204
Why we love it: I am noticing a theme here. All of my favorite Texas restaurants have fun outdoor seating, live music, and delicious food. The Rustic ticks off all the boxes!
I love the energy of the weekend crowd, locals kicking back after a long week, groups of friends and parties laughing and dancing along to the live band under the stars.
The picnic tables give it a relaxed feel, but the lights and ambiance give off a hint of swankiness.
Plenty of energy was put into creating a fun atmosphere, but there is nothing lacking when it comes to the food.
The homestyle meals are made using only fresh ingredients sourced from local ranchers and farmers. There is a wide variety of dishes on the menu and the portions are generous.
What to order: Rustic Burger with house chips and/or onion rings. The Goat Cheese Bread and Peanut Butter Pie are worth mentioning too!
