Holiday Parks (Campgrounds)
Official holiday parks or campgrounds offer the safest and most convenient way of camping. Depending on the equipment, you pay between NZ$10 and NZ$40 per tent or RV park. Showers, toilets, kitchens, usually even washing machines and barbecue areas are available. There are also electricity connections, sometimes even pools or small huts to stay overnight.
DOC Campsites
DOC stands for Department of Conservation, an organization that seeks to protect the environment. Their campsites are often idyllically located in the most beautiful nature and rather simply equipped. You may find toilets and showers in the area and the prices begin at around NZ$19 per person. Luxurious campsites even offer barbecue or cooking devices, waste bins or picnic tables.
Totaranui Campground

- Size: 269 seats without electricity
This place is located rather remotely in the north of the Abel Tasman National Park, along the coast track of the same name. You will find a fine sandy beach in the dreamlike Totaranui Bay. Where better to recover after a long hike? If you enjoy the outdoors, then you can become an adventure seeker and go fishing, kayaking and boating, or explore the surroundings. Mountain biking is also a popular choice. You are likely to pay NZ$13 per night per person.
Lake Pearson (Moana Rua) Campsite

- Prices: Free of charge
- Equipment: River water, simple toilets, self-catering
In the middle of the South Island in Craigieburn Forest Park you will find this free, idyllically located at the DOC campsite. Since there is only simple equipment and no tap water, you should bring your own. You can bask in the silence and views of the lake and the stunning mountains in New Zealand. It’s a wonderful place to recharge and enjoy the surroundings.
Whangapoua Earl’s Paradise

- Location/Location: Whangapoua, Coromandel Peninsula, north of the North Island
